Love is in the air for 2013!

2013 seems to be the year of new beginnings and of weddings! I, for one, am excited to say, that I know of 3 friends who will be getting married this year: one next month in Pakistan, one in August in Germany and one in November for Scotland! I’ll be attending the wedding in Pakistan and Germany and my friend has already asked me to design a stole and snood for her wedding here in Scotland!

Needless to say, I’ve been involved in a lot of wedding planning chitchat and it’s difficult not to start looking for ideas and inspiration for other brides-to-be for their momentous occasion. The first most important thing to getting there would be to find that special ring that defines your relationship and who you are. One notable factor would be finding an ethically sourced or vintage engagement ring. This article by Lisa with The Etsy Blog gives a good explanation of finding that special something which won’t break the bank or harm our world.

If you search for jewellery designers in your local area, I’m sure you’ll find more and more are cropping up who only design jewellery using recycled gold or other metals and ethically sourced or conflict-free gemstones. One of my personal favourite ethical jewllery designers is Lilia Nash. Lilia, based on Cotswolds, England, uses stunning gemstones and transforms them into simple, feminine designs that exudes old fashioned glamour and modern day beauty. Lilia also makes custom order pieces and is happy to discuss your ideas to make your perfect piece of jewellery.

It is also more and more common for designers to use moissanite, an ethical and less expensive, but just as durable, alternative to diamonds. It is also known to withstand high pressure with a score of 9.5 out of 10 on the Mohs scale, more so than sapphires and rubies (9.0) and comparable to that of diamonds (10 of 10).

To make that day extra special, it’s becoming more common for the bride and groom to do things themselves, from wedding dresses to invitations, from guest books to wedding favours.

Brides-to-be, what kind of things are you looking for to make that special day unforgettable?
